GivEnergy acquires Orange Power in a move set to shake up commercial grid services

Leading energy storage manufacturer, GivEnergy, has acquired energy aggregator Orange Power. The acquisition marks a significant step in GivEnergy’s grid service capabilities – enabling commercial battery owners to unlock new and previously unavailable revenue streams. So, businesses looking to decarbonise just gained even further financial incentive to clean up their energy act.

Orange Power coordinates and aggregates energy savings across nationwide battery assets when the grid is stressed. Meanwhile, GivEnergy specialises in battery energy storage systems (BESS) – with a particular focus on turning dumb assets into a smart, interconnected grid. So, the acquisition represents a key opportunity to drive grid flexibility innovation in the UK.

Plugging into – and continuing to develop – the Orange Power platform will afford GivEnergy new capabilities in the grid services space. Commercial and fleet partners using GivEnergy’s BESS will be able to support the grid by exporting the clean energy stored in their batteries. In turn, these participating businesses receive remuneration. So, through grid services, businesses can enhance revenue opportunities and generate ongoing returns on their energy storage investments.

Jason Howlett, Global CEO at GivEnergy, comments:

“We are thrilled to welcome the Orange Power team into the GivEnergy family.

The acquisition aligns perfectly with our goal of cleaning up the UK’s energy landscape, particularly as it pertains to Smart Energy Devices and their role in supporting and stabilising grid infrastructure. We’re also proud to be able to incentivise energy storage uptake by boosting the ROI of battery installation and maximising value for customers.

With Orange Power’s expertise in energy aggregation, we can help our customers unlock the full potential of their assets via access to the rapidly growing grid services market.”

The GivEnergy Group is comprised of multiple divisions, each running as their own adjacent legal entities. As well as its core residential battery storage arm, this includes a commercial battery storage arm and a software arm. Orange Power will now become a standalone entity within the GivEnergy Software division, bringing its core team together with founder Justin Ma.

Justin Ma comments:

“We are excited to bring our industry knowledge and experience to the GivEnergy Group.

The deal will allow us to join forces in offering tailored grid services designed specifically for the commercial sector. This is undoubtedly a market poised for growth, as businesses seek to increase their energy efficiency and capitalise on renewable energy investments.

Together, we can deliver substantial returns for partners while driving innovation and battery adoption in the renewable energy industry.”
