Keele strikes gold in national assessment of education

Keele University has been awarded the highest rating for the quality of its educational offer in an important national assessment of all higher education institutions in England.

The University’s performance in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) 2023 has been published by the Office for Students (OfS), with Keele achieving a Gold rating overall, maintaining its Gold standard achieved in the previous exercise in 2017.

The TEF assessment identifies excellence in the educational experience and outcomes of our students, focussing on all undergraduate courses and students.

The overall Gold rating, which Keele will hold for the next four years, signifies that the student experience and student outcomes at Keele are typically outstanding for all students and across all subjects and courses.

In addition to the overall Gold rating, separate ratings are given for Student Experience (Gold) and Student Outcomes (Silver). The panel identified outstanding quality across a range of features, including teaching, assessment and feedback, course content and delivery, staff development and practice, the learning environment and academic support, student engagement in improvement, approaches to supporting student success, and approaches to supporting wider educational gains.

In its report the panel notes that Keele “embeds effective approaches and tailors its approaches to its students to provide a consistent and excellent student experience.”

Professor Kristyan Spelman Miller, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Education at Keele, said: “We are delighted that the education we offer has been recognised as being of the highest standard in the sector.

“Gold TEF is a crucial hallmark of excellence. This achievement for Keele gives students confidence that the education they receive with us is of the highest quality, which will set them on a good course for their future careers, all delivered by staff at the forefront of their respective fields.”
