Newcastle-under-Lyme Celebrates Double Win at Heart of England in Bloom Awards 2024

Newcastle-under-Lyme Business Improvement District (BID), in collaboration with Newcastle Borough Council, is celebrating a tremendous double win at the prestigious Heart of England in Bloom Awards 2024, held on Friday, 20th September. The collaborative efforts have once again brought recognition to the town’s ongoing commitment to environmental excellence and community engagement.

The BID’s submission earned two highly coveted awards: the Mike Garwood Memorial Trophy for Queen’s Gardens, presented as part of the Judges Discretionary Awards, and a Gold Award in the Business Improvement District (BID) Category, further clinching the Overall Business Improvement District Category Winner title. These wins highlight the town’s outstanding horticultural standards, community involvement, reanimation of the town and creative environmental initiatives.

The judges were so impressed by the BID’s submission that Newcastle-under-Lyme BID has now been selected to represent the region in the Britain in Bloom National Awards 2025, competing in the Business Improvement District Category on a national stage.

Speaking on the success, BID Manager Charl Pearce expressed gratitude for community involvement and ongoing commitment to the town’s transformation.

“This achievement is a true testament to the dedication and passion of everyone involved, from community groups to local businesses, who work tirelessly throughout the year to make our town centre a more vibrant and welcoming place to live, work and socialise.

We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together and excited for the opportunity to showcase Newcastle-under-Lyme on a national level next year.”

Councillor Simon Tagg, Leader of the Council said “I am delighted that the council has played its part in supporting Newcastle BID to follow up last year’s outstanding success on behalf of the Borough, and that Queen’s Gardens has been singled out for its excellence.”

The Heart of England in Bloom Awards celebrate exceptional environmental initiatives that enhance local communities, and this year’s results underscore Newcastle-under-Lyme’s dedication to cultivating a greener and more sustainable future.
