Staffordshire community group recognised for outstanding lung health support

A Staffordshire community group has been recognised for its outstanding work in supporting people with lung conditions after winning a top award at the Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (MPFT) “Brilliant You” awards.

Breathe Easy North Staffordshire Community Group, supported by Asthma + Lung UK, triumphed in the Community Group Co-production Partners of the Year category. This award celebrates groups or organisations that work alongside MPFT to improve health and care services, amplifying the needs of the community.

The group has been working in partnership with the MPFT Community Respiratory Team for years, sharing a common goal of helping patients with lung conditions and their families live their best, healthiest lives despite their challenges.

“We were genuinely surprised to win – especially against such inspiring competition,” said a spokesperson for Breathe Easy North Staffordshire Community Group. “It’s an honour to be recognised for the work we do, and we are proud to be making a difference in our community.”

The award recognises the group’s dedication to co-production, which involves working hand-in-hand with healthcare providers to ensure that patients’ voices are heard, and that care continues to improve. This partnership is a vital part of MPFT’s mission to deliver better health and care in the community.

The event, held on 3rd October, highlighted the incredible efforts of individuals and teams across the trust. Breathe Easy North Staffordshire’s win not only showcases their commitment but also shines a spotlight on the value of community-driven health initiatives.

Asthma + Lung UK’s support groups are run with thanks to funds raised by players of the People’s Postcode Lottery, and are open to everyone. To find out more, please email supportgroups@asthmaandlung.org.uk or call 0300 222 5800.
