Staffordshire Hotel to Star in New Channel 5 Series

The Moat House Hotel, located in Acton Trussell near Stafford,  is the focus of Channel 5’s new series, The Motorway Hotel which airs next week.

Located in the very heart of England, The Motorway Hotel follows the triumphs and travails of staff and guests at this bustling and fast-paced commuter hotspot located near the M6, the motorway known as the backbone of Britain. Born out of a 14th Century farmhouse and now an extended site attracting visitors from across the UK, the series follows a diverse range of characters and their eclectic stories at the 24/7 hotel catering for a stream of customers from one of Britain’s busiest motorways.

The reins for the family-run business recently passed over to 26-year-old daughter Emily from her father and owner of The Moat House Chris, now in his fifties and a reluctant retiree who still likes to keep his hand in. A third of the 100-strong staff have worked there since the last millennium including sisters Stacey and Kirsty who run the reception and know every detail about their regular customers’ requirements and 78-year-old Moat House institution Ida, who washes the pots.

And meet the visitors including Greg, the local motorway breakdown rescue driver, taking respite in between rescuing motorists as the traffic flies past at 70mph; lorry spotter extraordinaire Dave, who’s combines a trip away for his wife’s birthday with a cheeky filming session at a nearby junction of the M6 and motorway maintenance man Lou, who’s visiting in between long shifts completing vital repairs to the motorway’s bridges.

The location, family-run origins and engaging resident characters offer a contemporary and entertaining take on life at a highway hotel reminiscent of iconic TV soap Crossroads.

Emily Lewis, Operations Director of The Lewis Partnership, says

“We’re absolutely thrilled to be involved in Channel 5’s new show! We were naturally very tentative when the producers first approached us about being a part of the show but as we discussed the details further, we began to feel at ease and ready to see how this exciting adventure would unfold. It’s an incredible opportunity for us that doesn’t come around every day. We hope the series will not only introduce The Moat House and Staffordshire to a new audience but also shine a light on the hospitality industry and all the work that goes into running a successful hotel.”

The Motorway Hotel, every night at 7pm on Channel 5, from Tuesday 11th June to Friday 14th June.
