Experiences to remember at the National Memorial Arboretum

The National Memorial Arboretum, in Staffordshire, is offering families an experience to remember, with a packed programme of activities for all ages, from outdoor trails and sensory play areas to a trio of free indoor exhibitions.

Wild Arboretum
On display until 13 March 2022, Wild Arboretum features a series of prints by lino-cut artist Gerard Hobson that capture the essence of the many animals, trees and fungi that can be found at the Arboretum. The works encapsulate how the Arboretum is a living, breathing memorial and one of the pieces was directly inspired by the site and created specifically for the exhibition.

The exhibition is complemented by an activity pack designed to help younger visitors learn more about the wildlife that calls the Arboretum home. Containing an activity sheet and sticker trail, each pack costs £2.50.

Falklands 40: Sketches from the Frontline
A new temporary exhibition on display until 19 June 2022, Falklands 40: Sketches from the Frontline is a collection of original battlefield sketches produced by Linda Kitson, who served as the official war artist during the conflict. Her works use ink, pencil and conté crayon to provide a unique window into the experience of those who valiantly fought on the frontline, with each piece often sketched in harsh conditions and sometimes under threat of danger.

Stick Man Activity Trail
Join Stick Man on his journey back to the family tree on this engaging activity trail featuring Julia Donaldson’s iconic character. Visitors can collect a free copy of the self-led trail map from the Welcome Desk on arrival.

Landscapes of Life
The permanent Landscapes of Life exhibition provides an introduction to the Arboretum and explores how Remembrance practices have evolved throughout human history.

“Whether you’re looking for a cultural experience or a stroll in the beautiful outdoors, you’ll have an experience to remember at the Arboretum during this half term,” said Chris Ansell, Head of Participation and Learning. “There are engaging activities for visitors of all ages, designed to help you explore the Arboretum’s natural landscape and discover the stories behind our memorials.”
