Staffordshire marks Platinum Jubilee with hundreds of events across bank holiday weekend
People across Staffordshire have marked 70 years of HM the Queen’s reign at hundreds of street parties and celebration events.
They included the Staffordshire Jubilee Garden Party event at the County Showground on Wednesday, where 750 guests including volunteers and community groups joined Staffordshire Lord-Lieutenant, Mr Ian Dudson.
Other events saw Jubilee Beacon lighting ceremonies at Tutbury Castle and Stafford’s Victoria Park, an Alice in Wonderland themed tea part in Market Place Cannock, a Platinum Party in Stafford’s Market Square and a party in Halfpenny Green Airfield, Bobbington, South Staffordshire.
And all over the county people organised street parties throughout the four-day weekend.
People who have taken photos of their event and plan to share them on social media are being urged to use the hashtag #StaffsJubilee
Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for communities and culture Victoria Wilson said:
“We have a wonderful community spirit in Staffordshire which has shown through the variety of Platinum Jubilee events across the county. Well done to all those who organised events over the last four days to make this a truly memorable occasion.
“As we recover from the pandemic occasions like this are extra special where family and friends can come together to celebrate. Here in Staffordshire, we can also look forward to Staffordshire IRONMAN 70.3 and the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games events and baton relay, where we expect hundreds of residents to turn out to show their support.”
