NSCG Students Capture Festive Spirit and Raise Record Funds for Dogs Trust

In what has become a heart-warming Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group (NSCG) holiday tradition, over £500 has been raised for the Dogs Trust, thanks to the creativity and hard work of four Newcastle College Level 3 BTEC Photography students.

This year’s campaign was led by Alishia Wilkins, Keeley Forbes, Grace Bourne and Jessica Newton, who are all studying on the Level 3 BTEC Photography course. Building on the success of previous years, the group organised a professional photoshoot inviting NSCG staff, students, and members of the public to bring their dogs into the college’s photography studio.

In return for a no-obligation donation to the charity, participants could receive print and digital copies of their photos, plus the option top purchase personalised keyrings and Christmas cards.

The photoshoots have raised an incredible total of £630, making 2024 the campaign’s busiest and most successful year.

The students’ Christmas spirit doesn’t stop there, as they have also been collecting donations for City Dog’s Home, and will be delivering gifts to the centre on Thursday 19th December.

Alishia, who coordinated the sessions, said: “I’m so happy with how the fundraiser went, it’s been a lot of hard work but seeing the final edits and total raised has made it all worth it. It has been a great way to finish the term.”

Curriculum Leader for Level 3 Extended Diploma in Photography and Digital Imaging at Newcastle College, Janine Grocott, said: “The students have worked so hard to pull this campaign together, from advertising the sessions, completing risk assessments and editing the final photos. It has been a huge success and they should very proud.

“The feedback from those that attended has been extremely positive and the funds raised has been even higher than we could have hoped.”

The Dogs Trust charity relies on much-needed donations to enable them to provide essential care, medical treatment and to help with the comfort of more than 1,400 dogs currently waiting to find their forever homes in 21 rehoming centres across the UK.
