Community Art Competition Set to Transform Newcastle-under-Lyme into a Vibrant Outdoor Gallery
This summer, the streets of Newcastle-under-Lyme will be brought to life with colour, creativity and community.
A vibrant flag installation is set to transform High Street, Ironmarket and Castle Walk with local artists of all ages encouraged to submit their artwork to be featured in the display.
Around 70 designs will be transformed into bright and beautiful flags that will animate the town centre throughout the summer months. Submissions are welcome from all age groups, with categories for children up to 9 years old, young people aged 10 – 17, and adults aged 18 and over. One overall winner from each group will be selected by a judging panel to receive a prize to the value of £150, while chosen artworks from those submitted will be proudly exhibited across the town.
The theme for the project is “People and Place” and artists are invited to express what Newcastle-under-Lyme means to them. Whether that’s a local landmark like the Guildhall, Brampton Museum or Queen’s Gardens, a favourite spot in town, a loved one or a self portrait. Anything that shows the connection between people and the place we all call ‘Castle.
This initiative is part of Newcastle-under-Lyme BID’s ongoing dedication to enhancing the public realm and celebrating the creativity and cultural identity of the town. By encouraging artistic expression and community participation, the BID continues to champion projects that bring vibrancy and connection to shared spaces.
“It’s going to be amazing to see Newcastle-under-Lyme bursting with colour this summer, thanks to the creativity of our local community” said Charlotte Pearce Manager of Newcastle-under-Lyme BID. “From the youngest artists to adults, we’re inviting everyone to take part and share what this town means to them. The flag installation will turn our streets into a vibrant outdoor gallery to celebrate local talent and the strong sense of pride that makes its community #LoveNUL.”
The BID also will be announcing opportunities for the public to take part in art workshops prior to the submission date to create their finished pieces.
Entries open on Tuesday 15th April and must be submitted by Friday 23rd May. Submissions can be emailed to hello@nulbid.co.uk or submitted in person at the Newcastle BID Offices, 4 Fogg Street, Newcastle-under-Lyme, ST5 2RE.
