A Wild Summer at Lichfield Cathedral

Summer 2025 will see The Beach at Lichfield Cathedral return for its fourth year, but with a twist on the wild side…

During the school summer holidays Lichfield Cathedral will not only be hosting its annual urban beach but also the Natural History Museum’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition. To continue the wildlife theme, Lichfield Cathedral will be building Noah’s Ark at the centre of The Beach – a boat-shaped play area with slide for children to enjoy during the summer months…

Alongside The Beach, Noah’s Ark and Wildlife Photographer of the Year, the Cathedral will also be putting on a number of family activities including craft, STEM and trails all with an animal theme.

As always, The Beach will be free and entry to the Cathedral, including the international touring exhibition of over 100 photographs will be donation-based, making summer holidays at Lichfield Cathedral a great value day out for the family.

The Rt Revd Jan McFarlane, Dean of Lichfield said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming visitors from all over the region and beyond to Lichfield Cathedral this summer. The Beach is hugely popular, giving us all an opportunity to relax in deckchairs and build sandcastles before visiting the stunning wildlife photography in the Cathedral. Our hope and prayer is that all who visit will find space to pause and rest, and to reflect on the joy and beauty of God’s creation.”

The Beach with Noah’s Ark and the Natural History Museum’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year will open on 26 July and close on 31 August. Entry to Lichfield Cathedral is donation-based. For more information on specific family activities click here.
