Beacon Park and Burntwood Park awarded the coveted Green Flag Award as they are officially recognised as two of the country’s best parks

Lichfield District Council is celebrating today after receiving the prestigious Green Flag Award for Beacon Park and Burntwood Park.

The sites are among 2,250 in the UK to achieve the award, which is the international quality mark for parks and green spaces.

The news that Beacon Park and Burntwood Park have met the standards required for the accreditation is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team that care for the green spaces so that visitors and residents alike can enjoy them.

Beacon Park has also achieved the Green Heritage Site Accreditation, supported by Historic England, for the management and promotion of its historic features.

Green Flag Award Scheme Manager, Paul Todd MBE, said: “Congratulations to everyone involved in Beacon Park and Burntwood Park who have worked tirelessly to ensure that they have achieved the high standards required for the Green Flag Award.

“Quality parks and green spaces like these make the country a heathier place to live and work in, and a stronger place in which to invest.

“Crucially, Beacon and Burntwood Parks are vital green spaces for communities in Lichfield District to enjoy nature, and during the ongoing cost of living crisis they are a free and safe space for families to socialise. They also provide important opportunities for local people and visitors to reap the physical and mental health benefits of green space.”

Councillor Phil Whitehouse, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Operational Services, Parks & Waste, said: “I am absolutely delighted that Beacon Park has retained the prestigious Green Flag Award and achieved the Green Heritage Site Accreditation and that Burntwood Park has been awarded the Green Flag Award for the first time.

“Maintaining our parks as attractive, safe places for our residents to visit and enjoy is a council priority and the awards recognise the tireless work of our fantastic parks team.”

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
