Bank Holiday Weekend sees Castle Food and Drink Fest Return to Newcastle Town Centre

Great news for food lovers as Castle Food & Drink Fest returns to Newcastle-under-Lyme on Saturday 23th August with a full day of street food, artisan makers and family activities from 10am to 4pm.

The free event is delivered by Newcastle-under-Lyme BID in partnership with Independent Street, a specialist market operator that curates artisan markets and street food events across the region including Congleton Market Quarter and Levenshulme.

Visitors can expect a strong mix of hot food, sweet treats and makers alongside the offer already on the High Street and Ironmarket.  Visitors to the event are encouraged to check out local businesses getting involved including the newly opened Breeze Bowls (açaí bowls and smoothies), Eggettes (bubble tea and bubble waffles), Bridge Street Ale House (a carefully chosen selection of ales, ciders an rum) and Delight Café (matcha, fresh salads). Many other town centre cafés, shops and restaurants will also be open throughout the day.

Family activity runs alongside the market: free face painting from 10am–1pm, free kids crafts and balloon modelling through the day and a meet and greet with Spidey, Mirabel and Ariel from 2.00–3.30pm. There will also be 50 free ice creams from Rossi’s Ices at 1pm on a first come, first served basis funded by the BID. Live music from James Ashcroft will take place on the Ironmarket outside Café Nero.

Charlotte Pearce, BID Manager said:

“We’ve now delivered three Castle Food & Drink Fests in the town centre since launching last August Bank Holiday.  It’s been great to work alongside Independent Street and it’s a strong way to showcase the town and the businesses that Newcastle has to offer.  If there’s one thing we know, it’s that people love good food and drink. Every Food Fest has brought strong footfall to the town centre and we’ve even seen hot food vendors sell out as well as local businesses benefiting from the extra trade.”

Lisa Cowley of Independent Street added:

“We’re proud to partner with Newcastle-under-Lyme BID on Castle Food & Drink Fest in Newcastle. Our focus is curating a mix of trusted regulars and new independents, keeping standards high and giving small businesses a platform. We’re looking forward to another strong day for the town centre with free family activities and a bustling market that supports the town centre businesses.”

This is the second Castle Food & Drink Fest of 2025 following a successful June event, with the event s within the wider BID annual events programme that includes events such as Castle Rewind (Sunday 31st August), Castle Classics (Saturday 25th October) and Light Up Castle, Newcastle’s Christmas light switch on (23rd November).
