Staffordshire pub crowned Great British Pub of the Year 2026

A Staffordshire pub has been named the Great British Pub of the Year 2026, putting the county firmly in the national spotlight.

The Tamworth Tap, situated in the heart of Tamworth and overlooking the historic Tamworth Castle, took home the top prize at this year’s Great British Pub Awards, alongside being named Best Beer Pub.

Run by George and Louise Greenaway, the popular microbrewery taphouse has become a firm favourite with locals and visitors since opening in 2017.

The national recognition is the latest in a growing list of achievements for The Tamworth Tap. Earlier this year, it was also named the Campaign for Real Ale’s (CAMRA) National Pub of the Year for a record third time, further cementing its reputation as one of the very best pubs in the country.

Judges at the Great British Pub Awards praised the pub’s extensive drinks selection, which includes 12 cask ales and 20 keg lines alongside bottled and canned beers and a premium wine list.

But it is not just the quality of its drinks that makes The Tamworth Tap stand out. The pub has built a strong connection with its local community, hosting a variety of events and groups and supporting local causes, while creating a welcoming place that George and Louise hope people can “call home”.

George said the team was “over the moon” to receive the prestigious award, describing it as “the Oscars for the industry”.

Ed Bedington, editor at The Morning Advertiser and head judge at the awards, also highlighted the pub’s commitment to quality and its community, praising its focus on building its reputation through “local causes, industry campaigns and award-winning credentials”.

The latest accolade is another fantastic national success story for Staffordshire, showcasing the quality, character and independent spirit that can be found across the county.
