100k for City’s 100th Anniversary
The founder of a Staffordshire tech company is running 100km to mark the city’s centenary and is urging others to put their best foot forward and do the same.
TMT First owner Adam Whitehouse is making a rallying call to other workplaces, gyms, colleges, schools, universities, running clubs and friends to take part throughout June.
Adam is running the 100km distance around the city on 5th June, the actual day when the city status was granted, to not only to celebrate the 100th anniversary but also to raise money for TMT First’s Charity of the Year, the Dougie Mac. And he wants others to join forces too.
Adam is urging people to:
- Form a team (or go solo!) and run what you can, when you can, throughout June – every kilometre counts, and every effort helps raise vital funds for Dougie Mac
- Split the distance however suits you best – whether it’s 1km, 5km, 10km, or even more – the choice is entirely yours.
- Run anywhere, anytime – around your neighbourhood, on a treadmill, or even join Adam for part of his epic route!
If you are part of a workplace, college, university or school team, he is giving you a chance to get involved and get recognised. If your team raises or donates £1,000 or more then Adam will visit you on the day of his 100km run – he will take selfies along the way and these will be posted on social media. As well as this you will feature on the official 100K4ADay Partner & Sponsors page and social media to showcase your incredible support. This is a brilliant opportunity to rally your community, make a real impact, and be celebrated for your efforts. Let’s show just how strong the Stoke-on-Trent spirit really is!
Anyone who doesn’t want to actually run or take part in the 100k but would like to help organise the event with Adam is asked to get in touch.
Adam said: “I am passionate not only about our city but also about our charity of the year the Dougie Mac. As a keener runner I thought why not combine my love of the sport with my love of the city and our charity of the year? What better way to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Stoke-on-Trent getting city status, by running 100k and raising money too for such a fantastic cause?
He added: Wouldn’t it be amazing if we – as a city – could aim to raise enough in this challenge to keep Dougie Mac “running” for one day – 100km for just one day – that’s £56,000? I’d love to hear from anyone who would either like to take part or would like to help me co-ordinate our team effort. Whether you run 1km or 10km, you complete it yourself or in teams, every step counts.”
The year 2025 marks 100 years since Stoke-on-Trent was granted city status by His Majesty King George V in 1925. It obtained city status on 5 June 1925, after a direct approach to King George V, to recognise the city’s contributions to the pottery industry.
