Best of British Beer celebrate the ‘Staffordshire Double’

Newcastle under Lyme based Best of British Beer are still celebrating after scooping two prestigious awards over the last few months. They’ve done ‘The Staffordshire Double’ by being voted the Best Small Business in the region by both the Chambers of Commerce and Staffordshire University. These awards come just a year after Will and Gill were voted Staffordshire Ambassadors of the Year for 2022 by We Are Staffordshire.

Husband and wife team Will and Gill Sherwin started Best of British Beer in the summer of 2011, originally based in their garden shed, they now operate from an 8,000 sq. ft. warehouse in Silverdale. In April last year they took the decision to give 51% of the business to their staff as a way to thank them for their commitment and to safeguard their future.

“Since we’ve become an Employee Ownership Trust, the business has gone from strength to strength and the motivation to succeed has reached new heights.” said Will. “I guess this is one of the reasons that the judges of both competitions thought the Best of British Beer story was so compelling.” he added.

Fiercely proud of their Staffordshire roots, the Company is always looking to work with local businesses.

“Our cardboard supplier is based in Chesterton, our product photographer in Burslem, the graphic designer we use went to Staffordshire University and we get 25,000 bottles of beer a year from a brewery in Leek”. Gill commented.

With Christmas fast approaching their range of beer gifts and the ever popular beer advent calendar will be featured by a number of well known retailers and from the Best of British Beer website.
