With the school summer holidays now under way, Visit Staffordshire’s 30 Days Out Under £30 campaign has returned with a host of great family days out that won’t break the bank.
Events across the county range from visits to animal attractions, fun trails, country parks, estates and gardens, and activities in libraries and museums.
The New Vic Theatre’s free Sensasian Festival Family Day in Newcastle will be celebrating South Asian culture on Saturday 26 July from 12pm, with dance, music, film and food to enjoy.
In Tamworth, there will be a week-long festival celebrating Athelstan, the first king of all England, with puppet shows, storytelling and more.
A free wallaby sculpture trail across the Staffordshire Moorlands, to help celebrate Peak Wildlife Park’s 10th birthday, is running throughout the summer until 5 September.
Fun family activities at a low cost include pottery painting workshops at the World of Wedgwood in Barlaston every day, which families can join for as little as £4.50 per participant.
At Uttoxeter Racecourse, on Sunday 27 July there’s the Burton Albion Family Fun Raceday, costing £28 for two adults and up to six children. The day promises a whole host of family fun.
And at the Staffordshire History Centre in Stafford, there are plenty of strange and fun things to see and do from over 1000 years of the county’s history.
Staffordshire libraries also have the Summer Reading Challenge, offering stickers and a certificate to children who read six books during their summer break, while there are hundreds of free events including Dr Dolittle shows and reading sessions hosted by children’s authors.
Martin Murray, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Economy and Skills at Staffordshire County Council, said: “We want everyone to be able to enjoy the summer in Staffordshire which is why our tourism team have come up with our list of affordable days out.
“The list of 30 things to do for less than £30 really showcases just how much Staffordshire has to offer everyone. This along with two amazing theme parks and national attractions really does make us the best playground in the country.
“I do hope the team’s ideas encourage families to try new things and make some wonderful memories.”
Staffordshire is also home to some of the country’s most well-known attractions like Alton Towers and Drayton Manor Park, earning the reputation as Britain’s best and biggest playground.
Tourism remains a vital sector for Staffordshire’s economy, worth around £2.7 billion a year and supporting about 25,000 jobs, and attracts approximately 37 million trips every year.
