British Empire Medals awarded to Staffordshire residents
Three Staffordshire residents have been awarded prestigious personal Honours by His Majesty the King for their invaluable contributions to their local communities.
The winners were announced in the 2022 Birthday Honours list and received their medals from the Lord-Lieutenant, Mr Ian Dudson CBE KStJ on behalf of His Majesty the King. The special ceremony was held On Tuesday 29 November at County Buildings in Stafford.
The recipients were as follows:
- Mrs Shelia Anne Cooper BEM, for Voluntary services in Staffordshire
- Mr Daniel Mark Kinsey BEM, for services to the community of Wombourne, particularly during Covid19
- Maurine Elizabeth Recine BEM, for Voluntary services to young people through Girl guiding UK and charity work in Staffordshire.
Ian Dudson, Lord-Lieutenant of Staffordshire said: “The British Empire Medal is a much-admired part of our Honours system, recognising voluntary contributions at a very local community level.
“I am delighted that we now have another investiture for three more Staffordshire residents who have been awarded Personal Honours recently. Their wonderful contributions have been recognised accordingly and I am privileged to have presented their Medals on behalf of His Majesty The King”
Vice – Chairman of the County Council, Mr Phil Hewitt who hosted the ceremony added: “It was a great privilege for me to host these presentations and honour these fantastic people from Staffordshire, who have done so much for our communities. They have all made invaluable contributions in their services and it was a great pleasure to see them receive such prestigious recognition from His Majesty for their hard work given over many years”
Shelia Cooper BEM said: “When I first started volunteering for St John Ambulance 32 years ago I would never have dreamed that I would be receiving such an honour as this. “The satisfaction I have enjoyed over the years from helping other people has been immense and I would thoroughly recommend it to anybody.”
Daniel Kinsey BEM said: “I am absolutely overwhelmed by this magnificent honour. I’m so grateful to the people who nominated me for feeling I was worthy, and I’m so proud of my community of Wombourne. It’s a pleasure and a privilege to work hard for them.”
