Newcastle-under-Lyme BID is launching a brand new event for the town centre this summer, Castle Pre-loved Market.
Taking place on the first Sunday of the month, the new market will run on Sunday 7th June and Sunday 5th July, bringing a fresh, sustainable shopping experience to the town centre using the existing market stalls.
The first event ‘Closet Clear Out’ on Sunday 7th June will focus on preloved fashion, accessories and wardrobe clear outs, tapping into the growing popularity of platforms like Vinted and the increasing demand for more conscious, affordable shopping.
On Sunday 5th July, the ‘Rummage and Re-a home’ event opens out into a wider “car boot style” market where anything goes. From homeware and books to collectibles and unexpected finds, it will capture the spirit of a traditional car boot sale in a more accessible town centre setting.
The introduction of Castle Pre-loved Market reflects how markets continue to evolve, responding to changing shopping habits and growing interest in sustainability. Preloved shopping is on the rise, with more people choosing to buy and sell second hand, not only for value, but as a more environmentally conscious alternative to throwing items away.
At the same time, the enduring popularity of car boot sales shows there is still a strong appetite for bargain hunting, rehoming items and discovering something unexpected.
By building on Newcastle’s existing market infrastructure, the event aims to add to the town’s market offer while creating new opportunities for people to take part, whether that’s clearing out, starting to sell or simply enjoying a different kind of town centre experience.
Charl Pearce, Newcastle-under-Lyme BID Manager says:
“It’s great to introduce something new to the town centre that reflects how people are shopping now. We’re already seeing that through the popularity the antiques market that takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the week that there’s a real appetite for finding something different or picking up a bargain.
At the same time, platforms like Vinted and Facebook Marketplace have changed how people buy and sell, especially with younger audiences who are more conscious about sustainability and giving items a second life. That’s something that’s come through strongly in feedback from students and local residents.
Castle Preloved Market brings that behaviour into the town centre in a way that’s social, accessible and easy to take part in. With the support of Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council, we’re able to utilise the existing market stalls on a Sunday, creating another reason to visit while giving people a great opportunity to have a clear out and make a bit of extra money.”
Castle Pre-loved Market will take place on:

Sunday 5th July – Rummage and Re-home
