Christmas lights shine bright at the Dougie Mac

Thousands of lights are now shining brightly on Dougie Mac’s Christmas tree, each one representing a loved one who is missed this Christmas.

The Christmas tree lights were officially switched on during Dougie Mac’s Celebration of Life event on Sunday, which was attended by supporters who have made a donation to the hospice’s Light up a Life campaign in memory of a loved one.

Donna Adams, Head of Community Fundraising at Dougie Mac, said, “It was lovely to welcome so many Dougie Mac supporters to our Celebration of Life event and hear their memories of the special people they’ve remembered with their Light up a Life donations.

“I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who made our Celebration of Life so special, we enjoyed great performances from a local dance school, soloist, band, adult and children’s choirs. The highlight of the afternoon was the moment our Christmas tree lights were switched on for the first time, knowing that each light represents someone special.”

Light up a Life is one of Dougie Mac’s flagship seasonal fundraising campaigns, which brings together the local community as they remember their loved ones and this year is set to be record-breaking with more than 8,000 people remembered. Although the Christmas tree lights are now shining brightly, there is still time to part of Dougie Mac’s Light up a Life campaign and anyone can donate and dedicate a light on the tree, even if their loved ones haven’t received care from Dougie Mac.

In return for a donation to Dougie Mac, everyone who takes part will receive some special mementos to thank them for their support:

  • a special wooden Light up a Life decoration to hang on their own tree
  • a Christmas card including the names of the loved ones they’re remembering
  • their loved ones names will be included in a special Book of Memories, which will be available to view at the Celebration of Life event and also online
