County council set to work with major new employer to promote new jobs to Staffordshire people

Hundreds of jobs set to be created by the first business announced at Staffordshire’s West Midlands Interchange development will be promoted to local communities by Staffordshire County Council.

Work on a £4million Carlsberg Britvic depot at the WMI site at Four Ashes in South Staffordshire will begin next week. The new depot will feature state-of-the-art facilities and support the company’s growing logistics needs.

With new jobs on the horizon later in 2026, the Staffordshire Jobs and Careers Service, which is run by Staffordshire County Council, is already planning promotion of opportunities to its residents. Up to 8,500 jobs could be created directly, with more in supply chain businesses.

Staffordshire Jobs and Careers service is a key partner of the WMI project, ensuring that people across the county benefit from both employment and skills development opportunities created on site by Carlsberg Britvic and the businesses which follow it.

The Staffordshire Jobs and Careers Service has an expert team of brokers on hand to match job seekers with appropriate vacancies. Its website, www.staffsjobscareers.com includes advice on careers or training options, top tips to gain employment and information for businesses. An in-person service is also available. The team can help people navigate job searches and put together a plan to support them through interviews.

Martin Murray, Staffordshire County Council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for economy and skills, said:

“It’s fantastic news that Carlsberg Britvic is coming to Staffordshire as first occupier on the WMI site – creating hundreds of employment and skills development opportunities for our communities.

This demonstrates Staffordshire’s position at the beating heart of the country for major business investment, with our superb connectivity which will be further enhanced soon and as a leading location for the logistics sector.

The Staffordshire Jobs and Careers Service is primed to promote opportunities as soon as they arise to our residents and ensuring the county sees the full benefit of the WMI.”

Robin Everall, head of development at Oxford Properties Group which is part of the joint venture behind the WMI, said:

“Attracting Carlsberg Britvic as the first occupier at West Midlands Interchange is a significant milestone for the project, underlining the quality of the offer we are creating and the importance of its location. The bringing together of the UK’s largest multi-beverage supplier and one of the most important logistics developments in the country will deliver a significant boost to the regional and national economy.”
