Head into Newcastle-under-Lyme for a Spectacular ‘Castle Summer’ Line Up

Newcastle-under-Lyme BID is thrilled to announce “Castle Summer,” a vibrant calendar of events throughout August, designed to bring a schedule of free activities, events and entertainment to the town centre.  Funded by Newcastle BID and delivered in partnership with various local organisations and creatives, Castle Summer promises a fantastic array of activities for all ages.

Pop-Up Park Activities

Every Friday in August, from 12-2pm, the pop-up park outside the Guildhall will host a variety of engaging activities for children. Highlights include a circus workshop, the Unconventional Menagerie featuring reptiles and small animals, delightful meet and greets with princesses and superheroes and crafting workshops. Keep an eye on the BID’s social media channels for detailed updates.

Outdoor Summer Screenings

On Saturday, August 17th, the High Street will transform into an outdoor cinema with four blockbuster movies shown for free. The schedule is as follows:

11am: Jungle Book

1pm: The Goonies

4pm: The Greatest Showman

7pm: Dirty Dancing

The BID have also partnered with Keele University to bring films from Earth Stories Film Festival to the town centre.  Earth Stories is an award winning film festival aimed at young filmmakers (14-25 years old) and is a student-led initiative that provides a platform for students and young filmmakers from across the world to articulate their concerns about the climate crisis.

Bring your own blankets, picnic furniture, and food to enjoy these cinematic favourites against the backdrop of the Guildhall.

Tuesday, August 27th – Doggy Date

Join the BID at the Pop Up Park for a Doggy Date, coinciding with the launch of a dog-friendly campaign. This event will feature free doggy paw-traits, ice cream treats for our furry friends, opportunities to win doggy bags from town centre businesses, and a chance for dog owners to socialise. We are proud to highlight dog-friendly businesses in the town centre and celebrate National Dog Day, which takes place in August.

Saturday 24th August – Castle Food & Drink Fest

On August 24th the Castle Food & Drink Fest in collaboration with Independent Street brings together over 40 traders and delicious food. This event is a celebration of local flavours, offering a diverse array of food and beverages for all tastes.

Castle Artisan Bank Holiday Special

On Monday, August 26th, the Castle Artisan Market returns to The Stones with a Bank Holiday Special. This event will showcase the best makers, bakers, and creators, alongside plenty of free family fun, ensuring a delightful day for all visitors.

The Castle Summer schedule is thoughtfully designed to reanimate the high street, offering free activities for parents and children during the summer holidays, attracting visitors to the town, and showcasing the best of our local businesses and creatives.
