HRH The Prince of Wales visits St George’s Park as the Lionesses head out for Euro 2025

The Prince of Wales, Patron of The Football Association, was at St. George’s Park on Monday to see the England women’s squad ahead of their departure to Switzerland for the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 tournament.

HRH met with the Lionesses squad and wished them luck ahead of the competition, after arriving in Burton and hearing from England head coach Sarina Wiegman and FA CEO Mark Bullingham about how the team have been preparing for the tournament.

His Royal Highness then dropped into a Made for This Game activity with junior girls’ football teams from primary and secondary schools, whose teams were formed after the Lionesses’ EURO victory on home soil in 2022.

The Lionesses have inspired a generation of women and girls to play football across the country, with a 56 per cent increase in participation in England since 2020.

The Made for This Game campaign will continue to provide opportunities to play and ensure the grassroots game continues to grow.

Players hosted their friends and family on site in a private lunch, with HRH sitting with the squad members going to their first senior tournament – Agyemang, Beever-Jones, Grace Clinton, Khiara Keating, Le Tissier, Anna Moorhouse and Jess Park – while getting the chance to meet their loved ones.

The special send-off ceremony involving the squad and support took place in the Hilton Ballroom, with Sarina and HRH addressing the squad.

Prince William also presented each member of the team with a special commemorative gift, starting with captain Leah Williamson before a special team photo was taken before HRH departed.

Later in the afternoon, the squad were waved off by visiting schoolchildren from the Hilton, heading for the airport and then on to Switzerland.

The UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 will run between 2 July and 27 July 2025, with England’s first match against France taking place on Saturday 5 July (8pm BST).
