Keele ranks among England’s Top 15 universities for combined research and teaching excellence

Keele University sits among prestigious company after ranking among the top 15 universities in England for combined excellence in both teaching and research in a new analysis of the latest Teaching Excellence Framework and Research Excellence Framework results, which show that it is one of only a select group of universities to achieve excellence in both assessments.  

The group of 15 English universities which fit into this “Golden Quadrangle” – universities that excel at both teaching quality and research intensity – sits Keele alongside many prestigious Russell Group institutions. 

This dual excellence in both teaching and research gives Keele students opportunities to work alongside world-leading researchers at the top of their field, studying a curriculum which is directly informed by globally-recognised research.  

Keele achieved a Gold ranking in the 2023 Teaching Excellence Framework exercise, a repeat of its previous Gold ranking from 2017 and therefore making it one of just 15 broad-based universities to achieve Gold in both years. In the most recent Research Excellence Framework, 80% of Keele’s research was rated as being either world-leading or internationally excellent.
