Local “Your Hero” winners join Newcastle Under Lyme BID as they ‘Light Up Castle’

Christmas comes to Newcastle-under-Lyme on Sunday 27th November and the light switch on event promises to be bigger than ever.

Newcastle-under-Lyme BID are looking forward to being joined by the winners of the Your Heroes ‘Child of Courage’ and ‘Future Star’ Awards to switch on the lights as well as being joined by presenters from 6 Towns Radio who will be broadcasting live from the town centre throughout the day to get the public in the Christmas spirit.

With festivities beginning at 11am, the High Street will be filled with music from local performing arts academies, colleges & community groups followed by live music until 7:30pm following a fabulous firework display.

The public will be able to enjoy street food, fairground rides, creative workshops, and enjoy a special visit from Santa himself.

The BID will be working with the Alice Charity to support their Teenage Gift and Toy appeals by asking that those meeting Santa consider donating a toy to a child less fortunate this Christmas.

BID Manager Charlotte Pearce says:

“2022 will see the first proper Christmas Light Switch on event since 2019, meaning that we’re ready to #lightupcastle and takeover the town for a fantastic family day out.

The light switch on and festive lighting is funded by town centre businesses and as such, we really wanted to deliver a free community led event that brings the public onto our high street and supporting those businesses.

Christmas is such an important time of year for retail and leisure so to bring the people of Newcastle-under-Lyme together will be a great way to mark the start of the festive season.”

Elsewhere in the town B Arts will be hosting lantern making workshops at Newcastle Common on the High Street between 11-3pm and in pop up locations around the town.  The lanterns made will be included in the lantern parade due to take place in the town centre on Saturday 3rd December at 5pm.

Appetite’s Newcastle Common will be hosting a Creative Christmas from their High Street shop with workshops including an alternative wreath making event as well as selling beautiful giftware and decorative objects all designed and created by local artists and makers.

Visitors are encouraged to check Newcastle under Lyme BID social media channels for more information and a full list of stage performances and times.

Free parking will be available on all Borough Council car parks.

#Lightupcastle is funded by Newcastle-under-Lyme town centre businesses and delivered by Newcastle-under-Lyme BID and partners.
