Lots on at libraries in run up to Christmas

Christmas craft fairs, a reindeer workshop, and The Muppet Christmas Carol show are amongst the activities available in Staffordshire libraries in the run up to Christmas.

Staffordshire libraries have a wealth of fun activities for all the family, many either free or at low cost. These along with the usual mix of books, e-books, reading groups and regular activities make libraries a great place to visit in the run up to Christmas.

At Burton library, a free mistletoe and moonlight artisan craft fair will kick off events on Saturday 26 November, giving people the chance to pick up a locally crafted gift.   This will be followed by a reindeer workshop on Thursday 15 December between 4pm and 6pm where children can create and decorate their own reindeer. Visitors to the library will also be treated to the Christmas concert on Friday 16 December from 6.30pm to 8pm.

In South Staffordshire, on Saturday 3 December Perton library will be hosting their Christmas craft fair with a range of stalls and lots of great Christmas gift ideas.  Whilst Kinver library will be hosting a Coffee Morning, selling cakes and hot drinks, all with an aim to raise money for Guide Dogs for the Blind, also on Saturday 3 December.

At Cannock library, visitors are invited to the annual fair on Saturday 26 November for a day of festive fun, gifts, and food.  Other Christmas craft fairs will be held at Blythe Bridge library on 26 November, Penkridge library on 9 December and Uttoxeter Library on 10 December.

Meanwhile, at Rising Brook library in Stafford, A screening of the Muppet Christmas Carol will take place on Saturday 10 December with a free print making session before the film starts.  Activities cost £2 per child and start at 12 noon.  At Stone library on Tuesday 20 December people can join more craft activities with artist and author Roselyn Barks.

Victoria Wilson, Cabinet member for Communities and Culture at Staffordshire County Council said:

“Christmas is a special time of year for many families and a busy time for our libraries with a host of extra festive events for all the family to enjoy.

“Our libraries continue to play a vital role in local communities, often acting as a central hub with access to lots of useful resources and local services.  And don’t forget, there’s access to over one million books, thousands of e-books, e-audio books and e-magazines to borrow.

“At a time where the cost-of-living pressures are having a tough impact on families across the county, it’s a great time to pay your library a visit and take advantage of the offer.  Borrow a copy of your favourite festive book and get the family in the mood for Christmas.  Or, pick up a gift at one of the Christmas fairs.”
