New businesses announced as Leek markets re-open

As Leek’s revamped indoor markets start to re-open following the £3.4 million transformation, two of the local food and drink businesses taking the new units in the Trestle Market have been announced.

Businesses and stall holders have started to return to the new-look Butter Market units and the Trestle Market. A number will be trading from this week  (Wednesday 27 November), others will be opening in the build up to Christmas. The official opening will take place early in the new year.

Three new food and drink units are a key part of the improvements now available to shoppers, visitors and traders.

And the Council is delighted to announce that from Friday 6 December, The Slamwich Club will be providing hungry customers with award-winning sandwiches, fries and sides and Scrumbles Cake Shop with coffee, desserts and sweet treats.

Councillor Matt Swindlehurst, Cabinet member for Leisure and Tourism, said:

“We’re absolutely thrilled to welcome Scrumbles and Slamwich to the Trestle Market and to the Moorlands.

“The new food and drink units are such an important part of this regeneration so it’s fantastic to be joined by these local businesses as we start a new era for the markets.

“There’s just one unit left so if you’re a street food vendor who wants to be part of the vibrant market and events scene in Leek, just get in touch with our markets team for more details.”

The two new food and drink businesses will complement the traditional market café that is staying in its usual place in the Butter Market.

The investment has future-proofed the markets halls delivering modern, flexible spaces for business and community use and improved customer comfort, safety and security and WIFI.

New Friday markets – themed around fashion on the first Friday in the month; food and drink mid-month; makers and artists on the third Friday; and vintage at the end of each month – are also set to start in the new year. Applications are now open for stalls.
