NSCG Stafford College Celebrates Another Year of Student Success

On Thursday 11th June, Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group (NSCG) once again lit up the Staffordshire County Showground as they hosted the annual Celebration Awards for students, employers and their families.

Over 30 awards were presented to students for outstanding achievements during their time at NSCG, with categories split into subject areas including academic and creative studies, vocational studies, skills and technology subjects and apprenticeships.

The event was attended by the award winners and their families, NSCG staff and governors, partner employers and special guest Leigh Ingham, MP for Stafford, Eccleshall and the Villages.

The ceremony began with the Academic and Creative category, which saw Chloe Harris take home the Honours Programme Award in recognition of the maturity and analytical thinking that shone through in her EPQ exploring advertising and beauty standards. In September, Chloe will be heading to the University of Leeds to study Marketing.

The Creative Arts Award was presented to Evie Jackson. Her creativity and meticulous attention to detail means her outstanding portfolio is already boasting degree-quality design work, including professional window graphics for a local veterinary practice. An incredibly talented and driven young designer, Evie will be continuing her studies at the Stoke-on-Trent & Staffordshire Institute of Technology with the HNC digital Content Creation course.

In the Professional Studies category, Tabitha Nevill was the winner of the Business, Travel & Accounting Award. Having completed her Level 3 BTEC National Extended Diploma in Travel & Tourism, Tabitha will be taking her naturally curious mind, reliability and professionalism to the University College Birmingham to study Airport Management.

NSCG’s mixed rugby team were the proud recipients of Team of the Year, having enjoyed another exceptional season filled with memorable performances, historic achievements and continued progress on both the regional and national stage.

The final awards to be announced were the Award for Special Achievement and the prestigious Principal’s Awards category, awarded to a vocational pathway student and two academic pathway students.

The Award for Special Achievement went to A Level student, Melody Knight. Melody has thrived at NSCG despite having bilateral profound sensorineural hearing loss and relying on a combination of lip-reading cochlear implants and specialist support. Whilst managing these challenges Melody has consistently demonstrated an exceptional commitment to her studies, intellectual curiosity and a genuine passion for learning. She now plans to progress to the University of Manchester to study a BSc in Environmental Science where she will undoubtedly continue to thrive.

The two Principal’s Award winners were Viacheslav “Slava” Marynychenko and Evie Wallace. Slava established himself as one of the most exciting young culinary talents at NSCG through his passion, professionalism and relentless drive to succeed within the hospitality industry. Having been previously named as a finalist in the Nestlé Toque d’Or 2026, and shortlisted for the Staffordshire & Stoke-on-Trent Tourism Awards 2025/26 Rising Star Award, there is no doubt he has an incredibly bright future ahead.

Evie has been recognised as one of the most academically gifted and intellectually curious students at NSCG Stafford College and her efforts have secured her progression to Wadham College at the University of Oxford where she will study Chemical Engineering.

Amongst student successes, three awards were also given out to celebrate local employers, with Whichrate Consulting LTD, Codsall Community High School and GE Vernova all receiving recognition for the support they show NSCG staff and students.

To further highlight their strong employer partnerships, awards were sponsored by a variety of organisations including Pearson, Keele University, the University of Staffordshire, Bluestorm Design, Trenton Construction, Stoke City Football Club, Stoke-on-Trent & Staffordshire Institute of Technology, Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce and We Are Staffordshire.

Shelley Brown, Deputy Principal of NSCG said, “Tonight was about celebrating people. We heard some remarkable stories of talent, resilience and ambition and every award winner should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved. As a college, we are privileged to work with learners and employers who continually inspire us and events like this provide a wonderful opportunity to recognise their successes and thank the staff, families and partners who help make those successes possible.”

With new courses being introduced for the 2026/27 academic year, there’s never been a more exciting time to be a part of NSCG, head to https://nscg.ac.uk/study to find out more.
