Screen Staffordshire: February update

Throughout February 2025, We Are Staffordshire’s new Film Office enjoyed a busy and prosperous month!

It was a real pleasure to be shown around, East Staffordshire, Lichfield and Stoke-on-Trent by the respective local authorities. The film office’s success will only be greater with the support of the wonderful city, districts and boroughs that call Staffordshire home; we’ve seen many sites that we think could be of great value to the Location Managers that help to make the UK Film and TV Sector a huge industry. We were also overjoyed to meet and scout key locations in these places, such as The Holiday Inn Burton Express, St George’s Park, Burton Indoor Market, Burton and South Derbyshire College, Lichfield Cathedral, the Bet 365 Stadium, Stoke Minster and the World of Wedgwood.

It’s not just those across the county – as both the Highways and Property Teams within Staffordshire County Council have been incredibly helpful as always. Our Highways team helped us to support an upcoming light entertainment series for BBC2, starring well known British talent who have BAFTAs on their mantelpieces, whilst our Property team’s flexible nature has led to upcoming visits from Location Scouts in the world of UK HETV Drama.

These are not the only productions we have supported; the Film Office has been aiding dramas, features and commercials with their aims and ambitions, with some exciting times ahead. These productions need the right locations, which is why we have added around 70 to Filming in England’s national locations directory since December, near enough doubling the number of locations that previously gained exposure through their platform. As always, Filming in England are a huge ally of ours and we thank them for their continued support and innovation in helping local authorities.

Locations are not the only area the Film Office is focusing on; productions need people, which is why we were especially pleased to secure our first paid day of work on a production for a freelancer within our borders. This freelancer will join a production shooting in the county in March, and we wish both them and the wider team the very best of luck whilst they are with us.

We are hugely grateful for the time and thoughts of brilliant locals such as The Red Haired Stokie, and old friends at Bolton Council in Greater Manchester, who have had so much success in our sector – in no small part due to their responsive, supportive and creative nature.

We’ve spent more time on getting out tech, website and branding ready for our launch, which will be later on in the year at an esteemed Staffordshire location, and we end February by very gratefully accepting the invitation to join Access Booking’s table at the Acorns Gala Dinner, celebrated by the team behind Steven Knight’s ‘This Town’.

We look forward to March as we gather pace – please do feel free to say hi at filmoffice@wearestaffordshire.co.uk
