Staffordshire figureheads celebrate county on camera to mark Staffordshire Day

Business leaders, actors, musicians and Olympic sporting heroes are telling their Staffordshire story – and dispelling negative perceptions of the county – in a short celebratory film released today.

We Are Staffordshire (WAS), the county’s place brand and marketing agency, has produced the film ahead of Staffordshire Day on 1 May and the UK’s Real Estate Investment and Infrastructure Forum (UKREiiF) later in the month to celebrate and raise civic pride.

It follows a national YouGov poll conducted by WAS on people’s perceptions and knowledge of the county. The film features celebrities and leading local figures to address negative and incorrect perceptions of Staffordshire and showcases the amazing cultural, culinary and industry brands and greats that the county boasts.

Included in the We Are Proud: We Are Staffordshire film are Michelin-starred chef Tom Shepherd, actor, writer and producer Rachel Shenton, Olympic canoeist Adam Burgess, business leaders Pritpal Singh and Dave Bott. It scans the county’s scenic landscapes and iconic leisure destinations and businesses. The film will now be used by WAS partners to promote the county at future events and promotional opportunities, using Staffordshire celebrities and icons as key ambassadors.

People can watch the film now at the here.

Tom Shepherd, owner, Upstairs by Tom Shepherd, said:

I wanted to be part of We Are Proud: We Are Staffordshire to challenge the outdated myths highlighted in the YouGov poll. As a business owner here in the county, my experience is one of incredible support, ambition and talent. Staffordshire has given me the opportunity to grow and to build something I’m truly proud of – and I want others to see that reality for themselves.”

Hannah Ault, chair of We Are Staffordshire, said:

As we mark Staffordshire Day and celebrate ten years of We Are Staffordshire, this film is a powerful statement of pride in our place. It boldly challenges outdated and inaccurate perceptions, replaces them with real stories from the people who know Staffordshire best, and reminds the nation just how ambitious, creative and special our county truly is.”

Robin Hall, Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for economy and skills said:

Through this short film, we have captured the pride, creativity and ambition that run through Staffordshire and reflects why we are truly at the beating heart of the country.

Leading figures from business, sports and the arts are telling a positive story about our place, people and potential. Importantly, it’s enabling us to spread our message to audiences across the UK and beyond.”

The film has been delivered in partnership with University of Staffordshire.

With support from the National Memorial Arboretum, Newcastle & Stafford Colleges Group, Stoke City Football Club, Port Vale Football Club, Emma Bridgewater, Keele University and Titanic Brewery.
