Staffordshire History centre welcomes its 5,000th visitor
Staffordshire History Centre is celebrating, having welcomed its 5,000th visitor to the new heritage attraction since opening in November.
Aoife, aged nine, from Wolverhampton, hit the milestone when she visited with her family during a trip to Stafford for the half term holiday. During her visit she got the chance to explore the centre, particularly enjoying the hands-on activities. She also got to meet the team and was given a bunny badge from the gift shop
Talking about her visit, Aoife said: “I had a great time at the history centre, especially making paper dolls and using the old-fashioned telephones. It was a great part of my school holiday. It was also great being a special visitor.”
Victoria Wilson, Cabinet Member for Communities and Culture at Staffordshire County Council, said: “We are thrilled to see the new centre reaching this significant milestone so soon after opening.
“It’s wonderful to see families and young visitors like Aoife enjoying the centre, the interactive exhibits and learning about our fascinating history. The team have done a great job in telling the Staffordshire story and making our history so engaging, accessible and so welcoming. It’s a must-visit destination for anyone interested in the region’s history.”
The new £8.7 million history centre was delivered by Staffordshire County Council and opened to the public on 6 November 2024. It was funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, with a grant of £4,858,699.
Located on Eastgate Street in Stafford, the new centre includes modern search and learning rooms, strong rooms capable of holding up to a further 50 years of archives and a bright exhibition space for displays and temporary exhibitions.
The new education and learning space can host a range of school programmes, workshops, talks and events designed for all ages.
