The Big Battle of Abbots Bromley Returns This Summer with Explosive Living History Spectacle

A major living‑history event is set to draw crowds to Abbots Bromley this summer, as The Big Battle of Abbots Bromley returns with one of the largest historical reenactment displays in the UK.
Taking place on Sunday 21 June 2026, the event will transform High Ash Farm on Yeatsall Lane into a journey through almost a thousand years of warfare and everyday life — from 1066 to the Second World War.
Organisers say more than 200 reenactors from over ten established living‑history groups will take part, bringing with them authentic encampments, military drills, and large-scale battle recreations, complete with live cannon and musket fire.
Major Displays and Hands‑On Activities
One of the key attractions will be large Napoleonic battle displays, alongside American historical reenactments that are rarely seen in the UK. Visitors will be able to wander through living‑history camps, meet costumed reenactors and learn about the uniforms, weapons and daily life of different eras.
The event also promises a family‑friendly atmosphere, with activities including:
- Interactive children’s drill sessions: A hands-on challenge to “join the Texian Army” and attempt to capture a Mexican cannon
- The chance to pose for a family photo in 1830s Mexican costume
- Food and refreshments — including a BBQ, ice cream, stalls and children’s amusements — will be available throughout the day
Growing Local Success
The event is hosted by Lee Chapman of Chappers Photography, building on the success of the Abbots Bromley Living History Festival, which attracted more than 500 visitors in 2024. This year’s event is expected to be even bigger.
“This event is all about bringing history to life in a way that is exciting, educational and memorable for all ages,” said organiser Lee Chapman. “We’re thrilled to be welcoming so many high‑quality reenactment groups to Abbots Bromley for what promises to be an incredible day.”
The public event opens at 10am on Sunday 21 June near Cobwebs Coffee Shop at High Ash Farm.
Advance tickets cost:
£10 for adults | £7 for children
Tickets can be purchased at www.chappersphotography.co.uk, with a limited number also available on the gate.
Photographers can book a separate exclusive photography day on Saturday 20 June, offering dedicated access to staged scenes and reenactors. This session is not open to the general public.
